Is Buncombe GOP Chairman Johnson stepping down?
Sunday, July 26, 2009 This video is titled "Buncombe GOP Chairman Dr. Timothy H. Johnson departs his post," but in the video, Johnson never says anything about stepping down. Still, Ashvegas readers confirmed a week or so ago that Johnson was quitting because he and his wife are moving to Durham.
Johnson made history in Buncombe County after being the first African-American to be elected to the local GOP's top post. Earlier this year, Johnson was elected vice chairman of North Carolina Republican Party.
But Johnson's rise to the top hasn't been without controversy. His election to the statewide party post was sullied when news was leaked about Johnson's criminal past - he was convicted of beating his wife. Then people started questioning his academic degree (the "doctor" reference).
What's the bottom line? It's this: the local Republican Party is now leaderless and remains in shambles well after last year's elections, a 2008 beat-down that still stings.

The state will be much better off and Buncombe will continue to upset the old time power brokers that are losing their grip each day. This is true in both parties. Thank God for that. All I ask is that those that wanted to see Tim's dd2 what ever and degree get off thier butts as ask to see the birth certificate of Obama....
We are a group that are loving the principles and will apply them.
