A little weekend news
Sunday, October 1, 2006 Biltmore Avenue shut down
WLOSers on Saturday led with a story about part of Biltmore Avenue being closed because of work on the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks down there. Workers are repairing old ties, resurfacing the tracks and will repave the road.
After that story, WLOSers pretty much recycled Friday's news. They rehashed the story about the Polk County man found buried in his sister's yard. He'd been missing since January, but nobody reported it until a month ago when 51-year-old Jay Clark didn't show up for his father's funeral. The sister and the sister's boyfriend are in jail on charges.
They rehashed the story about a substitute teacher in Jackson County being investigated for some sex chat during a school computer lab. And they did a quickie on the fact that John "Woody" Woodring is still on the run and that the case was profiled on America's Most Wanted.
In other news...
A bunch of female college golfers played a tournament in Waynesville. The Wachovia Great Smokies Collegiate Tournament or something like that. Apparently more and more women are playing golf, and playing golf well... Brevard College students held the "Can-a-Band" fund-raiser to collect canned goods for charity... And McCormick Field played host to the Indigo Girls in a concert Saturday night. The new manager's of the field say they want to have more concerts like this at historic McCormick Field because they envision the venue as "a complete entertainment destination." ... Also, the Flat Rock Music Festival was held this weekend - the 11th year for fun at Camp Ton-a-Wandah... And there was a barbecue festival in Maggie Valley.
